232,090 cases of prostate cancer, with 30,350 deaths 14% of those already afflicted will die.
212,930 cases of breast cancer, with 40,870 deaths 9%

104,950 cases of colon cancer, with 56,290 deaths 54%
59,580 cases of melanoma, with 7,770 deaths 13%
56,390 cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, with 19,200 death. 34%
This is an example of how statistics can be misleading. Close, but misleading. Basically the misleading part is shared by all so,,,,,,
If you are close to the cancer issue you probably understand the difference in cancers and that there are particular cancers that are better promoted to the public. I think it is obvious that lung cancer has very little positive publicity and I think it is obvious why. Look at the numbers, LC jumps out, then colon cancer. Even though the mass public doesnt overtly accept that we may have some responsibility in getting this disease. Someone in the ad department isnt touching LC, possibly Colon Cancer, for that very reason. And Colon Cancer isnt near as, well there are differences in perceptions of colon cancer and breast cancer. It is just the way things are.
Breast cancer and prostate cancers have never been directly or indirectly linked to habits and or lifestyle. Although diet has been linked and suggested it is brushed off by society in general. Besides everyone eats poorly. It is kind of like smoking, as long as many people do it, (and powerful people run the industry) , we just wont let it get in the way of reality.
Im starting to violate point 9. So I have to wrap up.
95% says a whole lot.
Someone has to say it so I will. Suppose all those who are smoking while dying of lung cancer and emphysema stopped smoking . Do you think an ad campaign could be put together to generate funds to help LC victims. Extrapolate the following percentages with money in mind, it would be mind blowing what could happen. The stats say 85 % of those with LC smoke ed. That means 15% didnt. Would we have a reduction of 85% of new LC diagnosiss? In turn, since there is little funds generated for LC, does that mean that smokers are not only killing themselves but **********************************************************************************
The real question is, is it possible, as things stand, to generate the same level of awareness for lung cancer as breast cancer or prostate cancer.
I believe the answer is yes, but as with fighting to recover, I also believe it requires a change, in attitude. Unfortunately that is a difficult thing to do and requires frank talk.
